Interview with Tori Wells, Founder of Feline Apparel: Empowering Women Through Fashion and Athleticism

Today, we’re excited to sit down with Tori Wells, the visionary behind Feline Apparel, to discuss the inspiration and creativity that fueled the brand's VOL. IX commercial dropping Thanksgiving Weekend 2024. We explore how the brand’s core values of empowerment, athleticism, and inclusivity are woven into the message and design of their collections.

Q: What was your main source of inspiration for the concept of the commercial, and how does it reflect the core values of Feline Apparel?

Tori: My main inspiration was giving women like myself the opportunity to feel and look good both inside and outside the gym. I wanted to create something unique that showcased women who look like me, while also appealing to athletes. As someone who used to be a professional dancer, I understand the importance of movement, performance, and style. It was crucial for me to create a brand that makes every woman feel confident, no matter where they are in their fitness journey.

At Feline Apparel, we believe in inclusivity and empowerment. We aim to cater to women from different walks of life—whether they're athletes, dancers, or women who are just starting their fitness path. I wanted this commercial to highlight that diversity and show that every woman deserves to feel empowered, strong, and stylish.

Q: How did you choose the specific visuals and themes used in the video to represent empowerment and athleticism for your audience?

Tori: The visuals and themes really come from how I'm feeling at the time. For example, with our Pumpkin Collection, I spent time researching what colors mean and the feelings they evoke. Orange, which is central to the collection, symbolizes fun, warmth, and a sense of nostalgia—it brings you back to childhood memories. Each collection is different because I want to connect with our customers on a deeper, emotional level.

I focus on making sure the visuals align with the message of empowerment. Whether it's a bold color scheme or a dynamic shot of a woman in motion, the visuals are always a reflection of the strength and spirit of the women who wear Feline Apparel. Athleticism is represented not just through the physical movements in the video, but also through the energy and confidence the clothing inspires.

Q: Can you share any personal stories or experiences that influenced the design and messaging of the athletic apparel featured in the commercial?

Tori: A lot of my personal experiences as a dancer have influenced Feline Apparel. Being a professional dancer requires a combination of strength, flexibility, and self-expression, which are all qualities I try to reflect in our designs. When I was younger, I didn’t always see women who looked like me in athletic wear advertisements, and that was a huge motivation to create something different. I wanted to ensure that our commercials and our products represent real women—diverse in size, shape, and background.

For me, it's about empowering women to feel like the best versions of themselves, no matter their journey. Every piece of clothing is designed with that in mind, from the fabric choice to the fit. I want women to feel comfortable and confident whether they’re dancing, working out, or just going about their day.

It’s clear that Tori Wells brings a deeply personal approach to Feline Apparel, blending her love for fashion and dance with a strong commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. The VOL. IX commercial serves as a reminder that athleticism and style are for everyone, and that fashion can be a powerful tool for self-expression and confidence.
